KRH Student Governing Board Visits State Capital

Members of the Kingfisher Regional Hospital Student Governing Board traveled to the State Capital and met with Representative Mike Sanders on Monday, March 9th, to further a discussion that began in February with both Representative Mike Sanders and Senator Mike Johnson concerning the need to recruit more physicians to rural Oklahoma. After researching the need for physicians in rural Oklahoma, the student board decided to propose a bill that would give physicians a state tax credit if they choose to locate in a rural area. While this year was not a great year to propose any taxing policies, the idea was very well received.

The KRH student governing board is selected annually from high school seniors expressing interest in healthcare. The students selected this year represent the best of the best and are taking an active role in influencing areas beyond school. They have taken a public focus on a very pressing issue. KRH CEO, Damon Benson, traveling with the students, commented, “We are grateful that these students are looking forward in a positive way to influence the political process for the improvement of the communities in which they live.”
